ANDALUZ

Located in the centre of Lisbon, the small street of Andaluz is the meeting point between buildings of different ages. The future housing complex is situated exactly in the centre of that same street, showcasing its mix of two different ages and construction styles.

Considering the building used to house a medical clinic and a nursing home in different points in time, it was intended to refurbish the building to serve a set of housing apartments.

From the three existing buildings, only the facade of the old building was preserved, one that has endured since the beginning of the 20th century. Its parapet was then redesigned to be used as a floor, offering more character to the old building as a whole.

In regards to the the two buildings located at each corner, it was designed two new facades, in order to fulfil the needs of its housings.

The project aims for the remodelling of the whole interior of the building, in order to transform the nursing home’s old space into a set of four apartments and two houses of three floors.

The previously existing car park in the patio, will be redesigned in order to create a garden with a pool, accessible to all condominiums. The space for the car park will be kept only in the underground floor, with space for nine cars.

The white concrete was chosen as a constructive language of the new facades, due to it being considered as a plastic material, one that bond to the old building without compromising its character, while showcasing the different stages of construction present in its surroundings.

With this project we intend to generate a space that reflect the serene environment of housing through a familiar scale of a modern neighbourhood, associated with a thoughtful architecture of high quality.
